IONIQ

Innovating Trapped-Ion Quantum Technologies for a Sustainable Excellence Node at Sofia University.

Our mission

Building a trapped-ion excellence node in Bulgaria

IONIQ's mission is to transform the Center for Quantum Technologies of Sofia University into a sustainable excellence node in trapped-ion quantum technologies. It combines CQT's internationally recognised expertise in quantum control with the world-leading trapped-ion experimental platforms of its advanced partners — the University of Innsbruck, Universität Siegen and Leibniz Universität Hannover.

Proposed as a 2026 capacity-building Horizon Europe project, IONIQ brings together first-class European trapped-ion groups to share knowledge, train researchers and strengthen the European quantum ecosystem.
